Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Grand Junction began
the new year in their new facility completed just prior
to the Christmas holiday. Western Slope Pro Audio, Inc.
provided design and installation services for the main sanctuary
sound system and the Fellowship Hall meeting rooms. A performance
spec was written by MuSonics in Golden, CO that served as
base line for the sound system design. The new Sanctuary
has a 360 degree seating plan that required four main speaker
clusters to be installed. Twelve Apogee ACS-1 loudspeakers
were configured in clusters of three each and installed
on the beam structure that frames the Altar and riser platform.
An additional pair was installed to provide delayed coverage
to the Baptismal font located near the main entrance. Entry
and Gathering areas received a low-voltage distributed sound
system along with the Cry Room. The Sony UHF wireless microphone
system and Ambo mics are automatically mixed by a Shure
SCM-810 mixer. Floor boxes provide additional connections
for special applications that are also connected to the
automatic mixer. A custom connection panel installed on
the rolling mix rack allows signals from the riser locations
to be routed as necessary to any input on the SCM-810.Music
playback for recorded selections may be played in either
CD or cassette format via a Marantz PMD 350 independent
CD/Tape deck. The tape also functions as a record deck when
needed. The house mixer is a Mackie Designs 1604-VLZPro that
receives the main mix output from the SCM-810 mic mixer,
stage box feeds for the performance bands, and audio from
the PMD-350. Two house mix locations were specified in the
original construction documents. For this capability Whirlwind
multi-pin connectors were installed on the main mix rack
and in the two floor box house mix locations. A second set
of multi-pin connectors were installed in the Choir area
providing a simple-single connection for the stage box.
The rolling HSA mixer rack |
may be moved to either of the
two house mix positions and connected by a single multi-pin.
This design provides a simple connection without worry of
multiple cable and connection requirements. The main mixer
output feeds the Apogee ACS processor that provides model
specific EQ, crossover, and overload protection to the speaker
system. The processor output feeds both the main and delay
system EQ’s. A Shure DFR-11EQ provides system tuning and
feedback control for the main speaker clusters and a Shure
DP-11 provides equalization and delay for the remote zones
and Baptismal font speakers.Mackie Designs M-800 power amplifiers
were installed in the main equipment rack, located in a
service room adjacent to the main worship space, to power
the four main clusters. A Peavey IPS-150 power amp was installed
for the Baptismal font speakers and a Peavey IPA-150 amp
for the Entry and Gathering 70-volt system. All equipment
racks were fitted with Furman power conditioning and surge
and spike protection.A Listen Technologies frequency agile
hearing assist system was installed to provide audio for
the hard of hearing. The Fellowship Hall may be divided into
three separate rooms with two zones of audio available.
Microphone wall plates and in-wall volume controls were
installed for both zones. A Rolls RM-68 Zone Wolf preamp
allows input signals to be routed in any combination to
the two zones. A Technics SL-PD6 5-disc CD changer and RS-TR575
dual cassette deck were installed for music playback. A
Raxxess SWR sectional wall rack with locking doors was installed
to mount the components.Atlas Strategy Series in-ceiling
speakers were specified for all 70-volt systems.System Design
